Fan Questions: Where in the World is JP Dumont?

JP Dumont spent five years with the Predators after spending time with the Sabres.

We here at Lady Preds love when our readers ask questions and we are very happy to get them answered for you! We have gotten several questions on the whereabouts of our old friend, JP Dumont. Unlike Sully and Ward, who were traded off to other NHL teams, Dumont’s contract was bought out by the Predators and he became an unrestricted free agent.

Jean-Pierre “JP” Dumont was signed to the Nashville Predators in August of 2006 with a two-year, $4.5 million contract after the Buffalo Sabres rejected his $2.9 million arbitration award. He was signed to a four-year, $16 million extension in February 2008. Unfortunately for “Just Pass” Dumont, he hit an all-time low during the 2010-11 season and it was apparent the Predators were setting sail without the right wing.

So where is he now since placed on URA?
As of October 21st, JP Dumont signed a one-year contract with the Swiss team Schlittschuh Club Bern (SC Bern). Dumont was already familiar with the Swiss team, as he played for them during the 2004-o5 NHL Lockout. Dumont had until the 25th to sign with an NHL team, but it looks as if he will be playing in Switzerland for a while.

We do have to admit, we miss hearing, “JP…Duuuummmooonnntt!” when he scored, but David Poile had younger, more eager kids on his mind this summer and poor Dumont just didn’t fit that label. We wish Dumont the best of luck with SC Bern.
